Education Management Information System

Education Management Information System (“EMIS” ) is a Microsoft Windows 9x/NT/2000 application, written in  Borland C++ and working with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 DBMS.

“EMIS” database  contains information about all educational institutions located in Armenia. With the help of this system specialists from the Ministry of Education and Science can analyze educational institutions data,  evaluate the real state of the educational system  and  make adequate decisions. Specificity  of the information kept in database can be  defined by the Ministry.  

EMIS allows:

• data collection according to data forms provided by the Ministry;
• data flow from Local Educational Departments to Ministry and vice versa. Any data transfer media (modem connection, via floppy disks or any other media allowed;
• data analysis and reporting;
• textbook ordering system. A system for collecting information on textbook requirements from each school will be incorporated into EMIS

The database system  have the following main features:

• search – for finding a desired piece of information;
• filter – for getting a certain set of data through defining criteria to be satisfied (after which any available operation of the system may be applied to the chosen set of data)

§         add data – adding new data to the database (any piece of information)

• editing data – making amendments to the existing information
• archiving data – separating the outdated information from the database system for storing and later use
• import data – incorporating data from outside the system (used in cases when an archive should be used, when data from one data entry point is sent to another, etc.)
• export data – copying a certain part of the database to a separate file, which can then be used for importing it in another data entry point of the global system
• reports generation – the set of reports discussed and agreed upon with the customer
• export for Excel use – copying a certain part of the database to an MS Excel format file. This enables to use MS Excel's functionality for conducting additional data analysis, creation of charts, etc. MS Excel macros developed and delivered along with the system to allow automated use of Excel features.
