BIOGRAPHY
Artur Avanesov
was born 1980 December 9, in Moscow.
After 7 years of study as a pianist in Baku (Azerbaijan), Kapan and Yerevan (Armenia), he entered Spendiarov Music School in Yerevan, studying there music theory. In 1997, he entered Composition and Piano departments of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, where he studied with Stepan Rostomyan and Elena Abajyan, and graduated from it with two honor diplomas in 2002. Now he is a postgraduate student of Composition and Chamber Ensemble departments of the same Conservatory, and prepares his academic thesis "Zen in the Music of XX Century" for Art candidate degree.
As a composer, Mr. Avanesov has numerous piano, vocal, choral and chamber works. Some of them were successfully performed in Armenia and abroad. The sources of inspiration for his music are: Armenian folk and church music, raga, gagaku, Gregorian chant, Renaissance and Baroque music simultaneously with the achievements of Impressionism, pointillism and rock.
The range of his interests as a performer consists of:

  1. Harpsichord music (Renaissance and Early Baroque) on authentic instruments;
  2. Classical and Romantic chamber music (especially Brahms);
  3. Chamber music of the beginning of XX Century (Prokofiev, Webern, Hindemith, Debussy…);
  4. Solo and chamber works written by contemporary composers (a number of compositions are dedicated to him, including about 30 premieres of new works).

During and after his studies, he has performed a lot of recitals (both solo and in ensembles with Armenian and foreign players), has taken part in numerous master classes and participated at some international festivals of modern music.
He currently works as a musicologist, writing for Armenian music periodicals.
