Something about...

There is an ancient fortress in the Mardakert region of Nagorno-Karabakh, 3 or 4 kilometers north-west from the Chapar village, in the timbered mountains, more than 1700 meters attitude. Long time ago, this fortress was the safe harbor for Armenians defending against nomadic tribes, due to its natural impenetrable position. There are a lot of references about this citadel in the works of Raffi, Leo, Shahen Mkrtchyan and others. It is known as Hakarakaberd. Hakarakaberd itself is not of great historical value, as there are many citadels like this in Armenia. The rocky tunnel is of the top interest, four meters long, two meters high and wide. The tunnel is filled up with water on the quarter of its volume. That is drinking water, a little yellow, with no outer taste or smell, always fresh and icy. The surprising is that no one can tell from where the water is streaming. Alike, it’s impossible to learn where the water goes from the tunnel. But its coolness and freshness is the evidence that the water is flowing, because dead waters rot with time. The fact is that it is impossible for water to flow upward, but despite all the laws of the Nature waters here flow to the highest top of the highest mountain in the area. There is no peak in the neighborhood to be higher, so we can say that the water is flowing from it through some communicating underground channels. Even if we suppose that the waters come here through subterranean lines, the question of how it may flow upwards and where it disappears from the tunnel remains unanswered. Researches were carried out here by Soviet scientists and no answer was given on the matter. They had even bailed the water with the buckets, but the tunnel filled up again in so slide manner, that nobody could see from where it comes. Some hours later there was water in the tunnel, as before. It is also unknown, whether the fortress was build here at first, and the water supplied to it for the times of siege, or the waters were run here eternally and this was the reason to build the citadel here. And it doesn’t matter, who had made it real – a human or the powers of Nature – this is the phenomenon and it must be seen.
