This holds good very good for a medical student and, especially for a medical student it is very important to go to clinics and hospitals to see learn and practice what he learns. As practice makes a man perfect.

This summer vacation while all my friends had gone home for their holidays to the warm shadows of their mother. I decided to go and experience how it fells to be in a hospital.

That is when I first time came to the 1st hospital to the Dept of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, I introduced my self to Dr. Gevorg Yaghjan M.D. Who was with his warm and welcoming voice and charming smile permitted me to do my practices in the dept, he made me fell very comfortable and at home.

The first operation which I saw was the one on a woman who had after getting drunk cut her left arm deeply with a knife, her radial artery was cut and other muscles of the forearm. I really adored the way the surgeon skillfully put the hand together as if it was a game for him he made it look so easy but I can tell you this job is not as easy, as it seems, especially for the doctors, who are paid so less and not to forget the instruments the instruments of medieval age. It is like working in space with scuba diving equipment.

For a person to become a surgeon is not so easy cause, just being a good surgeon is not enough a surgeon should be a good therapist also without the knowledge of which he is incomplete.

Coming back to the department I will say that it is a very desciplined department the doctors here were very nice to me, at first they explained me about the patient and, how to diagnose different problems, then they slowly let me assist them in the dressings. Here I learned to take out stitches, and do dressings put stitches, check for infection, clean wounds see x-rays, from the doctors even in the OR they explained about the operation methods and ways to treat it.The Sisters were also very cooperative they taught me how to put different kinds of injections I.V. muscular also to put catheters and change catheters, measure blood pressure.

Here I learnt that the same doctor has to treat each patient in a different way as each one has a different level of pain. Working with the small children in the most difficult cause as a child when ever they see a doctor they think of injections and they start crying is less to say screaming is the right word. They are the ones which need attention the most of all as they are very tender and even a small mistake done while operating on them can effect their future life ,also working with them is difficult as children as you know are not able to express the exact feelings and which makes the work for the doctor even more difficult or demanding as you may put it.

It is here where I even got my foirst chance to ASSIST in an operation. It was like a dream come true seeing all those operations was one thing and doing one was another
